Vetrospace’s new innovation tackles the invisible problem in acoustic office pods and workplace solutions
Office pods have long competed on acoustics, privacy and design. Vetrospace is now making air quality the next key competitive factor. Its new Cognitive Air™ system and Ambient Vectoring™ technology improve indoor air quality in office pods and reduce the negative impacts of poor air quality on concentration and well-being at work.
HELSINKI (1.9.2026) – Vetrospace is introducing a new intelligent Cognitive Air™ system across all its office pods and phone booths, featuring patent-pending Ambient Vectoring™ technology. The new innovation aims to solve a common problem in office pods and soundproof workspaces: stale air, rising carbon dioxide levels, and heat buildup. At the same time, the new innovation seeks to maintain conditions that support concentration and cognitive performance.
Vetrospace will present the Cognitive Air™ system at the Habitare Pro event in Finland in September 2026. The international launch of the technology continues during the autumn, and the solution will also be presented at international industry events such as the Orgatec trade fair in Germany. Vetrospace's aim is to establish air quality and thermal comfort as measures of office pod performance alongside acoustics and to move the workspace solutions industry towards spaces designed for sustained work.
International research has linked elevated carbon dioxide levels and poorer indoor air quality to weaker performance, particularly in cognitively demanding tasks. A study led by the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health found that a decline in air quality was associated with a reduction in cognitive performance of up to 50 per cent. Vetrospace has taken this challenge into account in its product development, investing significantly in flow analysis and R&D to optimise ventilation both inside and outside the pod. The Cognitive Air™ system measures carbon dioxide levels and adjusts ventilation automatically as the load changes. In an enclosed space such as an office pod, the user continuously generates heat and releases carbon dioxide and other human bioeffluents through breathing and the skin. Therefore, ventilation has to be able to respond quickly to changing conditions.
Cognitive Air™ adapts ventilation based on conditions
Cognitive Air™ combines air quality measurement, automatic ventilation, clean filtered air, and controlled airflow into a single system. Adaptive CO₂ Control monitors air quality both inside and outside the pod and adjusts ventilation automatically according to the actual load. Users don't have to estimate the need for ventilation themselves; instead, the system responds to measured conditions and optimises ventilation while saving energy. This is important, since users may not notice air quality deteriorating until the carbon dioxide level has already risen to a point where it can affect cognitive performance.
Vetrospace's Ambient Vectoring™ turns the air leaving the pod into a stable, directed airflow that can be guided high above obstacles. This allows the air to mix more effectively with the surrounding room air, or to be directed towards the building's own extract ventilation.
"Office pods are already a growing industry, but we see far more room to expand how they are used. When pods are designed so that people can work in them comfortably for a full day as well, the ways they are used expand and utilisation rates rise. Our goal isn't just to make better workspaces, but to raise the bar for the entire industry. At the same time, the potential market in Finland and internationally grows significantly. We believe this makes it possible to scale Vetrospace's business to the order of tens of millions of euros in the coming years," says Mikko Hannula, CEO of Vetrospace.
Vetrospace's pods are designed and manufactured at the company's own factory in Littoinen, in the Turku region, and they can be tailored by size, materials, and equipment, from single-person workspaces to large meeting rooms. In addition to offices, the company's solutions are used in customer service spaces, industrial environments and healthcare facilities, among others. The company also has extensive scope to customise products to meet customer needs.
